Uppgrading OSS
==============
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
NOTICE
Information given in this document is ONLY valid for "full" OSS packages
purchased directly from 4Front Technologies or our authorized resellers.
Special "OEM" version of OSS is included in many Linux distributions.
4Front Technologies doesn't provide any support or upgrades to this version.
However your Linux distribution vendor may have upgraded OSS versions
available for you from their web/ftp site.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Upgrading to a more recent OSS versions
---------------------------------------
Version upgrades for OSS can be downloaded from
http://www.opensound.com/upgrade.cgi for free. Before upgrading you will need
your existing OSS license serial number which is shown in the license file
(license.asc in the directory you installed OSS).
Please check the possible upgrading restrictions from your license file.
Upgrading to a new kernel version
---------------------------------
If you upgrade to a new kernel version you will probably need to download
a new OSS version too. This can be done for free from
http://www.opensound.com/upgrade.cgi.
Please check the possible upgrading restrictions from your license file.
Upgrading OSS after buying a new soundcard
------------------------------------------
Most soundcards will require a special option in the license file
before they work. In case you change to a new soundcard it's often
necessary to order the option for the new card. The name of the required
option will be printed when the soundon command is executed.
Option upgrades are not free unlike other OSS upgrades. You can order a new
option to your existing OSS license using http://www.opensound.com/order.html
(the normal OSS order form). When odering a license upgrade you need to
give the original license number in the field reserved for it. In this way
you don't need to pay the base OSS price (or possible earlier options) again.
To make the option upgrade easier we have created a partially prefilled order
form that can be opened using any web browser and submit. In this form the
required options are already checked so you only need to fill in your
name and address information. To use this form you need an active internet
connection (you can transfer the file to a machine that is connected to
internet). The file is order.html and it's located in the directory you
installed OSS.
If you have ordered OSS through any of our authorized resellers you can order
the license upgrade through them too.
